"Thank you Kelowan Laser Vision for the service and care that we, as a family, have appreciated.
I had worn corrective lenses for over 40 years. I am now enjoying the benefits of mono-vision through Lasix surgery that I had done in 2004.
My son Luke had PRK surgery in the spring of 2005, followed by my daughter, Charity, in the spring of 2006.
Waking up each day without of the need for glasses or contacts, uninhibited participation in sports and care-free activities of daily living are all areas of our lives that have been enhanced since our surgeries. For this we are thankful! "

"For years, I struggled with the inconvenience of glasses and contact lenses. I felt that my dependence on them hindered the flexibility of my lifestyle - I always had to worry about packing enough contact lenses and solutions as well as glasses whenever I traveled, and I had to worry about having replacements readily available should the need arise. Since I love scuba diving and other water sports, my visual situation became very frustrating. Contact lenses could never correct my astigmatism well enough for me to ever have good clarity of vision, and my dry eyes made contact lens wear often uncomfortable. After several years of contemplating the idea of corrective laser surgery, I was undecided if I wished to proceed. I would be lying if I denied being a bit apprehensive about undergoing an elective procedure - one that could potentially affect my vision and ultimately almost every aspect of my life! I was concerned about the possibility of my dry eye worsening after surgery. In many respects, I was fortunate to have been able to work so closely with LASIK patients at Kelowna Laser Vision and listen to what their post-op experiences have been. Having seen firsthand the outcomes of surgeries in the past 8 months, I knew that I had the confidence in the surgical team.
Most of all, after surgery I had to learn to take my own advice - the same advice that I give to my patients every day. Vision will improve day by day and my vision did indeed fluctuate during the initial healing period. While I, of all people, should and do know that all of these symptoms are part of the normal healing process after surgery, it is difficult not to get excited about this newfound vision and I admit, I was a bit impatient about waiting for my vision to stabilize. I just couldn't wait for it to get to the best that it could be!
After a lot of thought, extra sedation and courage on surgery day to go through with the surgery - even though I have seen dozens of them being performed - I have no regrets about having had LASIK. My vision is better than it ever was with contact lenses and my dryness is no worse than before surgery. It's wonderful to have the freedom of 20/20 vision with out contact lenses/glasses and tomorrow, I leave for Thailand, for what I am sure will be one of the best and most memorable scuba diving trips of my life."

"I was 21 years old when I had PRK. I started wearing contacts/glasses when I was about 14 years old. I hated wearing my glasses, and my contacts would often get dried out and I could only wear them for a limited amount of time. I choose to have PRK because my prescription was only -2.50(right) and -2.25 +2.5 x89 (left). I had the surgery done over a year ago and I can't even remember what it is like to wear glasses or contacts. I had hardly any discomfort after the surgery. The only thing I noticed was my eyes were quite light sensitive for the first few days after surgery. I am so glad I had the surgery and I would do it again if I had to. My vision is great!!"

"When I reached the age of 43 years I found my close up vision for reading had diminished. I had reading glasses every where! By each phone, by the bed, at the computer, in my car, on the boat and generally learned to hate them. When I heard about mono vision I thought that's for me - no more reading glasses. The clinic treated my left eye for reading and left my right eye for seeing distance. It took a couple of months after surgery to train my brain to see the clear image it was receiving from either eye. I also was concerned about a loss of depth perception because I race sail boats competitively. They tell me I have lost 5% of depth perception but I'm unable to tell this in my daily life so it has never been an issue for me at all. Now I don't wear readers and I still see the distance clearly. I couldn't be happier."

"Having laser surgery was a dream come true for me!. I had worn contacts and glasses for more than 25 years, since age 16 and was basically blind beyond six inches from my nose without either. The freedom and absolute joy I've experienced since the surgery is incredible. The things I can see have given me a whole new lease on life. For example, when we went to Mexico this year and I was swimming in the ocean, I could see every bird flying overhead and open my eyes under water to the point where I swim with greater strength and confidence. The little things like getting up in the night without grappling for glasses, not having to clean lenses and do sports without glasses falling off my nose - it's been almost two years and appreciate these comforts and conveniences every day.
I chose to have the surgery at Kelowna Laser Vision despite slightly less expensive options in Vancouver, because of the clinic's excellent reputation and the thorough, professional approach they took in preparing me for the surgery. I had some initial frustration with dryness after the surgery - a problem that also existed when I wore contacts and glasses - but the staff provided every option to reduce the discomfort and provided constant support. We found short term solutions until my eyes healed completely, and occasional trips to a warmer, more humid climate than exists in the Okanagan have since alleviated this problem.
It was well worth it to me to work with this local clinic and I appreciate knowing the specialists are close at hand should I need them. I have recommended Kelowna Laser Vision to several friends who have also had great results, and will continue to do so."

"I had PRK laser correction 2 ½ years ago, and was offered the option of having the mono vision approach for patients over 40, to deter reading glasses. Mono vision correction is not offered to everyone and there is a period of adjustment, which in my case was about 2 months post-op I found I had adjusted. My vision was considered a very low myopic range, however I still needed my glasses or contacts for driving. I am a very outgoing person and enjoy many sports, such as skiing, baseball, biking, swimming, camping etc. I found corrective lenses a burden to my lifestyle, and laser correction has given me the freedom to do the activities I enjoy without a second thought of having solutions for contacts or an extra pair of glasses. It's a pleasure just not having to go shopping for corrective glasses or contacts, which was very frustrating. Looking back through our family photo album I see pictures of myself with glasses and laugh to think that I thought they were very stylish glasses. Would I recommend laser correction to my friends and family, I sure would and do."
